Hamburger Pie
- 1 1/2 lb. lean ground beef
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- dash of pepper
- 1 (6 oz.) can tomato paste
- 1/2 c. dry breadcrumbs
- 1 c. regular, raw rice
- 2 c. water
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. ground savory
- 1/2 tsp. thyme
- 1/2 tsp. marjoram
- 1/2 tsp. celery salt
- 1/4 tsp. rosemary
- 1/8 tsp. white pepper
- 1 tsp. dried parsley
- 1 Tbsp. butter
- 1/2 c. grated Cheddar cheese
- Preheat oven to 400u0b0.
- Mix first 5 ingredients well and press into a deep 10-inch pie plate, as for a crust.
- Bake 40 minutes. In the meantime, combine rice, water, onion and seasonings in a heavy saucepan with lid.
- Let sit for 20 minutes without heat. After 20 minutes, bring to a boil; stir once.
- Reduce heat to low and simmer, covered, 20 minutes.
- Stir in butter.
- Remove meat from the oven and drain off any fat.
- Top the meat with the rice, smoothing it to the edges of the pie plate.
- Sprinkle with cheese and return to the oven for a few minutes until cheese melts.
- Let sit 10 minutes before cutting into wedges.
- Serves 6.
