Nannie Henning'S Coffee Bread

  1. Pour scalded milk over butter; let cool.
  2. Dissolve yeast in measuring cup with 1 tablespoon sugar and lukewarm water.
  3. Let rise to top of cup.
  4. Add yeast mixture to milk mixture and flour to make a sponge.
  5. Let rise 45 minutes.
  6. Add 1/2 cup sugar, eggs, salt and flour.
  7. Knead and let rise 2 hours.
  8. Divide into 2 loaves and braid each loaf with 4 braids.
  9. Put in two 9 x 7 x 1-inch pans. Brush with egg mixture and sprinkle with sugar and almonds.
  10. Bake at 350u0b0 for 20 minutes.
