Caramel Layer Squares
- 14 oz. pkg. light caramels
- 1/3 c. evaporated milk
- 1 pkg. German chocolate cake mix
- 3/4 c. butter or margarine, melted
- 1/3 c. evaporated milk
- 1 c. chopped nuts
- 6 oz. pkg. semi-sweet chocolate chips
- Preheat oven to 350u0b0.
- Grease and flour a 13 x 9-inch pan. Combine in heavy saucepan first 2 ingredients.
- Cook over low heat stirring constantly until caramels are melted.
- Keep warm. Combine in large bowl remaining ingredients except chocolate chips.
- By hand stir until dough holds together.
- Press 1/2 dough into pan.
- Bake for 6 minutes.
- Sprinkle chocolate chips and caramel mixture over cooked dough.
- Then sprinkle rest of dough over that.
- Bake 15 to 20 minutes.
- Cool thoroughly.
- Makes 3 dozen.
