Banana Chocolate Chip Bars
- 1/2 c. butter (room temperature)
- 3/4 c. firmly packed brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
- 1 c. mashed bananas (1 or 2)
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1 1/4 c. flour
- 1/2 c. wheat germ
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1 (6 oz.) pkg. semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 3/4 c. chopped nuts
- 2 Tbsp. granulated sugar
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- Beat butter, brown sugar and nutmeg together until creamy. Beat in bananas and vanilla.
- In separate bowl, stir together flour, wheat germ, soda and salt; add to creamed mixture, beating well.
- By hand, stir in chocolate chips and 1/2 of nuts.
- Spread mixture in a greased 9 x 13-inch pan.
- Sprinkle with remaining nuts.
- Mix granulated sugar and cinnamon; spread over nuts.
- Bake at 350u0b0 for 18 to 20 minutes, or until toothpick inserted into center comes out clean.
- Makes about 3 dozen bars.
