Apple Slices (Danish Apple Bars)
- 2 1/2 c. flour
- 1 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 c. lard (must use lard)
- 1 egg yolk, slightly beaten
- enough milk added to egg yolk to make 2/3 c.
- 2/3 c. crushed corn flakes
- 5 c. sliced peeled apples
- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 egg white, beaten stiff
- Mix first 3 ingredients together.
- Cut in lard.
- Add egg yolk mixed with milk.
- Mix dough just enough to hold together.
- Cut dough in half and roll one portion into 11 x 15-inch rectangle. Transfer to cookie sheet.
- Spread crushed corn flakes on this pastry.
- Spread sliced apples over corn flakes.
- Cover apples with sugar mixed with cinnamon.
- Cover with remaining half pastry rolled out.
- Pinch edges together.
- Beat egg white until stiff and spread on top of pastry.
- Bake at 375u0b0 for 40 minutes.
- Remove from oven and while still hot, drizzle glaze over top.
