Old Fashion Apple Jacks
- 2 1/2 c. flour
- 1 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 c. shortening
- 1 egg, separated
- 1/2 c. crushed corn flakes
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 Tbsp. butter
- 1 c. sugar
- apples (enough to fill 9 x 13 cookie sheet), peeled and sliced
- milk
- 1 c. water
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 Tbsp. cornstarch
- Blend first 4 ingredients.
- Beat egg yolk in measuring cup and add milk to make 2/3 cup.
- Add to dough mixture.
- Chill 1 hour before rolling out.
- Roll 1/2 dough and place in 9 x 13 cookie sheet.
- Sprinkle with corn flakes, then layer with apples.
- Dot with butter.
- Mix 1 cup sugar with cinnamon; sprinkle over apples. Roll out remaining dough and cover apples.
- Beat egg white until foamy and brush over top crust.
- Bake at 350u0b0 for 45 minutes to 1 hour.
- Remove from oven and drizzle with icing.
