Hungarian Lattice Pastry

  1. Sift flour, sugar and baking powder into a bowl.
  2. Add butter and mix as for pie dough.
  3. Mix together sour cream, egg yolks and vanilla.
  4. Add this mixture to dough mixture and mix well.
  5. Dough will be soft.
  6. Roll a little more than 1/2 of dough into a jelly roll pan.
  7. Spread the jam on top.
  8. Beat egg whites and 1/2 cup sugar gradually until stiff, then fold in nuts.
  9. Spread the nut mixture on the preserves.
  10. Be careful not to mix the two toppings. Make narrow strips of dough in a crisscross pattern on top of nut filling.
  11. Bake at 350u0b0 for 30 minutes or until golden brown.
