Baked (Or Fried) Apple Pies
- 2 c. dried apples or peaches
- 3 c. water (add more if needed)
- 2 c. sugar (add more if needed)
- corn oil
- 2 c. self-rising flour
- 1/2 c. Crisco
- 3/4 c. milk
- Cook apples until done or tender.
- Mash with a potato masher, add sugar and mix well.
- Continue to cook until no longer soupy, stirring often.
- Make a nice rich pastry by mixing flour, Crisco and milk.
- Roll out dough into balls half the size of a biscuit. On a floured piece of wax paper, roll each ball into a thin circle.
- Dip a teaspoon into water and moisten edges of circle to make them stick together.
- Place a heaping tablespoon of fruit on one half of the circle of dough.
- Fold the other half of circle over the fruit and seal with a fork dipped in flour.
- Place the pie on a well-greased bread pan.
- Cook in a 400u0b0 oven until brown on bottom.
- Brush a teaspoon of corn oil on each pie and turn over and brown on the other side.
- When done, brush the tops with melted margarine or corn oil.
