Stuffed Cabbage Rolls
- 12 large cabbage leaves
- boiling water
- 1 1/4 lb. ground beef
- 2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. pepper
- 1 c. uncooked regular rice
- 1 small chopped onion
- 1 egg
- 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp. sage
- 1/2 tsp. thyme
- 3 Tbsp. oil
- 1 Tbsp. brown sugar
- 1/4 c. water
- 1 Tbsp. lemon juice or vinegar
- 2 (8 oz. each) cans tomato sauce
- Cover cabbage leaves with boiling water and let stand 5 minutes until leaves are limp, then drain.
- Combine ground beef, salt and pepper, regular rice, chopped onion, egg, nutmeg, sage and thyme. Place meat portions into cabbage leaves. Roll and fasten with string or a toothpick. Brown in 3 tablespoons oil.
