Danish Pastry Apple Bars
- 2 1/2 c. flour
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. margarine
- 1/2 c. butter
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 c. crushed Rice Krispies, cornflakes or Wheaties
- 8 c. sliced apples
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 egg white
- 1 c. powdered sugar
- 1 Tbsp. milk
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- Combine flour and salt; cut in margarine and butter.
- Beat egg yolk in measuring cup; add enough milk to make 2/3 cup liquid. Mix well.
- Stir into flour.
- Roll half of dough into jelly roll pan.
- Sprinkle cold cereal on dough.
- Top with apples; sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon.
- Roll out remaining dough to fit top. Seal edges.
- Beat egg whites until frothy; brush over top of dough.
- Bake until golden brown.
- Glaze warm bars with powdered sugar, milk and vanilla mixture.
