Grandma'S Old-Fashioned Macaroni And Cheese
- 1 (1 lb.) pkg. macaroni
- 1 lb. Cheddar cheese, grated
- 1 (14 oz.) can tomatoes, cut (pieces)
- 1/2 green pepper, diced
- 1 can evaporated milk
- cornflakes, crushed (optional)
- Preheat oven to 325u0b0.
- Cook macaroni according to package directions until not quite done.
- Drain.
- Put one-half of macaroni in buttered 9 x 13-inch pan.
- Layer one-half of grated cheese on top.
- Add remainder of macaroni and finish layering with other half of cheese.
- Pour evaporated milk over the top.
- Add tomatoes and green peppers on top.
- If liquid is not visible, add additional liquid (milk).
- Cover with aluminum foil.
- Bake at 325u0b0 for 2 hours.
- Remove foil and add crushed cornflakes the last 20 minutes of baking time for a crisper topping.
