Picnic Turnovers
- 1 1/2 c. cooked ham or other meat, ground
- 4 Tbsp. mayonnaise
- 1 tsp. dry mustard
- 1/2 tsp. onion juice
- 2 Tbsp. dill pickle, finely chopped
- 2 c. sifted flour
- 3 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 5 Tbsp. shortening
- 2/3 c. milk
- 5 slices cheese
- Combine meat, mayonnaise, mustard, onion juice and pickle; mix well.
- Sift flour with baking powder and salt.
- Cut in shortening until consistency of meal.
- Add milk until a soft dough is formed. Roll lightly on floured board to 1/4-inch thickness.
- Cut into 4-inch squares.
- Brush squares with melted butter.
- Place triangle of cheese on half of square.
- Put 1 tablespoon meat mixture on cheese and fold over other half of dough to form triangle.
- Press edges together.
- Bake in hot oven (425u0b0) for 20 to 25 minutes. Makes 10.
