Homemade Wheat Bread

  1. Soften dry yeast in 1/2 cup warm water.
  2. Combine shortening. Stir in whole wheat flour and 1 cup white flour.
  3. Beat well.
  4. Stir in softened yeast.
  5. Add 3 cups white flour.
  6. Rest of flour will be used to knead dough.
  7. Knead dough for 1 to 12 minutes.
  8. Shape dough into ball.
  9. Cover in greased bowl big enough to let rise double in size for 1 1/2 hours.
  10. Punch down; shape into 3 smooth balls.
  11. Cover and let it rest for 10 minutes.
  12. Shape into 3 loaves.
  13. Put into greased pans and let rise until double (1 1/2 hours).
  14. Bake at 375u0b0 for 45 minutes.
  15. Cover loosely with foil if loaves brown too quickly.
