Layered Salad

  1. Cut lettuce into bite size pieces and place in bottom of 13 x 9-inch dish.
  2. Mix celery, onion, pepper, carrots and water chestnuts together; spread evenly over lettuce.
  3. Spread Hellmann's mayonnaise over top of mixture.
  4. Make sure you use sufficient mayonnaise, because this will become your dressing when served. Sprinkle 3 tablespoons sugar over mayonnaise.
  5. Cover with plastic wrap; let stand overnight in refrigerator.
