Old Fashioned Bread Pudding
- 12 -14 slices stale bread, cut into large cubes
- 1/4 cup melted butter or 1/4 cup margarine
- 1/2 cup raisins
- 5 eggs (which I prefer to use) or 5 Egg Beaters egg substitute (which I prefer to use)
- 4 cups warm half-and-half or 4 cups whole milk
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- 3/4 cup white sugar (scant)
- 1.tre-heat oven to 350 degrees F.
- 2.tix together all ingredients except for the bread and raisins (remember to temper the eggs into the warm milk so that they do not scramble).
- 3.tn a large bowl, combine the bread cubes, raisins, and wet ingredients and let sit for 15 minutes.
- 4.take in a water bath for approx 40 minutes or until a inserted knife or toothpick comes out clean.
