2 Step Devil'S Food Cake
- 3 Tbsp. cocoa (heaping)
- 4 Tbsp. sugar
- 2/3 c. water
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 2 c. cake flour
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. soda
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 c. butter or shortening
- 1 1/4 c. sugar
- 3 eggs, well beaten
- 1/3 c. buttermilk
- Combine cocoa and 4 tablespoons sugar and water in saucepan. Cook over low flame until thick and shining, stirring constantly. Let stand until cold, stirring occasionally.
- Add vanilla.
- Sift flour; measure and add baking powder, soda and salt.
- Mix well. Cream butter thoroughly.
- Add sugar gradually; cream well until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs; beat well.
- Add cocoa mixture; beat well.
- Add flour alternately with milk; beat well.
- Bake at 350u0b0 until done.
