Bran Pretzels

  1. Preheat oven to 425u0b0.
  2. Grease cookie sheet.
  3. In large bowl, combine yeast and warm water; stir until dissolved.
  4. Add bran; let stand 5 minutes to soften.
  5. In medium bowl, combine 2 1/2 cups flour, sugar and salt.
  6. Using wooden spoon, stir into bran mixture until well combined.
  7. Gradually add remaining flour if dough is too sticky to handle.
  8. Place on floured board; knead until smooth, 1 to 2 minutes.
  9. Cover with towel.
  10. Let stand 5 to 10 minutes. Divide dough into 12 pieces; roll each into 13-inch rope.
  11. Form into pretzel shape.
  12. Place on prepared cookie sheet.
  13. Brush lightly with egg.
  14. Sprinkle with coarse salt.
  15. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes.
  16. Makes 12 pretzels.
