Hoagie Sausage Sandwiches
- 3 lb. Italian sausage (not smoked)
- 3 large bell peppers, sliced
- 3 large onions, sliced in rings and separated
- 1 large can crushed tomatoes
- 1/2 tsp. oregano
- 1/2 tsp. thyme
- 1/2 tsp. basil
- couple of dashes Worcestershire sauce
- In a large frying pan, saute onions and peppers in a tablespoon of oil until tender.
- Add crushed tomatoes, spices and salt and pepper to taste.
- Put sausage in a large baking pan. Stick several times with a fork.
- Add about 1/2 inch of water to the bottom of pan.
- Bake at 350u0b0 until sausage is done; drain water.
- After draining water off of sausage, pour sauce over, then cover with tinfoil and put back in oven.
- Cook slowly at about 300u0b0.
- The longer it cooks, the better it is, about 45 minutes to 1 hour.
