Toasted Sloppy Joe
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 2 Tbsp. vegetable oil
- 1/2 c. onion, chopped
- 1 lb. lean ground beef
- 2 Tbsp. brown sugar (light brown)
- 2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. black pepper
- 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
- 5 to 10 drops Tabasco sauce (or to taste)
- 1/4 c. ketchup
- 1/2 to 1 c. tomato juice or V-8 juice
- 8 slices white bread
- 4 slices American cheese (sharp Cheddar, if one prefers)
- 2 to 4 Tbsp. butter or margarine (I prefer butter)
- For the meat sauce (Sloppy Joe), saute garlic in the oil over medium heat in large skillet.
- As the garlic begins to brown, add the onion and saute until soft.
- Stir in the beef with a fork; continue stirring constantly to keep it loose as it browns.
