Hamburger Soup

  1. Brown meat in a large heavy pot until it loses its color. Drain off fat.
  2. Add onion, peppers (or chiles), garlic and mushrooms.
  3. Cook until vegetables are soft.
  4. Add remaining ingredients, except cheese, and mix well.
  5. Bring to a boil.
  6. Cover and simmer 1/2 to 1 hour.
  7. Adjust seasonings to taste.
  8. Sprinkle cheese on each serving.
  9. Yields 6 to 8 servings.
