Mama'S Icebox Rolls

  1. Add lard to hot mashed potatoes and hot potato water.
  2. Let lard melt; add sugar and cold water.
  3. When lukewarm, add yeast, then let stand 2 hours.
  4. Add 1 teaspoon salt and egg whites and flour to make a stiff dough.
  5. Let stand in a draft free room until mixture starts to rise. then put in "icebox" (refrigerator).
  6. Form into round rolls and rise again until double (about 1 hour).
  7. Place about 2 1/2 inches apart on a greased baking sheet.
  8. Bake at 400u0b0, approximately 15 to 20 minutes, or until nicely brown.
