Applesauce Jar Cake
- 2/3 c. shortening
- 2 2/3 c. sugar
- 4 eggs
- 2 c. applesauce
- 2/3 c. sugar
- 3 1/3 c. flour
- 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 2 tsp. baking soda
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. ground cloves
- Cream together shortening and sugar.
- Beat in eggs, applesauce and 2/3 cup sugar.
- Then sift together dry ingredients and add to applesauce mixture.
- You may add 2/3 cup chopped nuts and raisins if you like.
- Pour into well-greased wide mouth pint canning jars, filling only 1/2 full.
- Bake at 325u0b0 for 45 minutes.
- Remove jars one at a time.
- Wipe sealing edge clean.
- Put on lid (that's been in boiling water) and tightened with ring.
- Screw tight.
- As cake cools, jars will seal.
- Store as you would regular canned goods. Make a nice gift to keep on hand anytime.
