Miss Mary'S Cabbage Casserole
- 1/2 head cabbage, chopped
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 1/2 green pepper, chopped
- 3 Tbsp. butter or margarine
- 3 Tbsp. all-purpose flour
- 1 c. milk
- 1/2 c. shredded Cheddar cheese
- cornbread crumbs
- Cook
- the
- first
- 3 ingredients in lightly salted water until tender.
- Drain.
- Melt butter in saucepan.
- Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.tlowly add milk; stirtntil thickened.
- Add
- cheese;
- blend
- until
- melted. Preheat oven
- to 325u0b0.
- Layer the drained cabbage mixture and cheese
- saucetn
- a greased casserole.take several layers, ending with
- sauce.
- Bake until
- bubbly.
- Top with crumbs (we use cornbread crumbs that are sprinkled with poultry seasoning or you
- could
- use
- cornbread stuffing
- mix).
- Return to oven until lightly browned.
- Makes 4 servings.
