Strawberry Pretzel Squares
- 2 c. crushed pretzels (not finely crushed)
- 3 Tbsp. sugar
- 3/4 c. melted butter or regular margarine
- 8 oz. cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 2 c. thawed Cool Whip
- 2 Tbsp. milk
- 2 c. boiling water
- 1 c. cold water
- 1 (8 oz.) pkg. strawberry jello
- 2 pkg. (10 oz.) frozen sliced strawberries or 2 c. fresh strawberries
- Preheat oven to 350u0b0. Mix crushed pretzels, 3 tablespoons sugar and butter. Press firmly into the bottom of a 13 x 9 baking pan. Bake for 10 minutes and cool. Beat cream cheese, 1/2 cup sugar and milk until smooth. Fold in Cool Whip gently, then spread over cooled crust and refrigerate. Boil water and pour strawberry gelatin in, stirring well for about 2 minutes. Stir in the cold water and refrigerate for about 1 1/2 hours or until thickened and gelatin is beginning to set. Stir in the strawberries and carefully spoon over cream cheese layer. Refrigerate at least 5 hours or until completely firm. Cut in squares to serve. Whipped topping may be added as a garnish.
