Fudge Cake Aristocrat
- 3 oz. unsweetened chocolate, finely cut
- 3/4 c. boiling water
- 1/2 c. ready to eat bran
- 1 1/2 c. sifted cake flour
- 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 2 eggs
- 3/4 tsp. soda
- 3/4 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- 1/3 c. thick sour milk or buttermilk
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- Place chocolate in mixing bowl.
- Add water, stirring until chocolate melts.
- Add bran and set aside to cool.
- Sift flour, baking powder, soda, salt and sugar into cooled mixture.
- Add shortening and beat 2 minutes (200 strokes).
- Add milk, vanilla and eggs.
- Beat 2 minutes.
- Pour into 2 greased 8-inch pans and bake at 350u0b0 about 30 minutes.
- Ice with Fudge Frosting (follows).
