Chop Suey Or Chow Mein For 2Lubbock, Texas
- 1 c. celery, finely chopped
- 1 c. Chinese cabbage, sliced thin
- 1 c. bean sprouts
- 1/2 lb. sliced beef, pork, shrimp or chicken
- 1/2 c. yellow onion, finely cut
- 1/2 clove garlic, minced
- 3 Tbsp. cornstarch mixed with a little cold water
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2 tsp. soy sauce
- 1/2 tsp. sugar
- 1/2 tsp. MSG
- 3 Tbsp. oil
- Optional: Bamboo shoots, mushrooms, water chestnuts, snow peas, 1/2 cup.
- Use wok or skillet to heat oil over medium heat.
- Cook meat with garlic until browned.
- Add all vegetables and seasonings and 1/2 c. water.
- Stir, cover and bring to a boil.
- Stir in cornstarch mixture and continue stirring until thick and smooth. Cover for 2 minutes and serve over rice or chow mein noodles.
