Chocolate Thumbprints(1993 Brownie Bake-Off Winner)
- 1 oz. unsweetened chocolate
- 1/2 c. margarine
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 egg, separated
- 1/4 tsp. vanilla
- 1 (6 oz.) pkg. chocolate chips
- 1 c. flour
- 1/4 tsp. salt (optional)
- 3/4 c. finely chopped nuts
- Melt chocolate over hot water; cool.
- Cream the margarine. Add melted chocolate.
- Add sugar, egg yolk and vanilla; mix thoroughly.
- Sift flour and salt; add to mixture.
- Slightly beat egg white with fork.
- Roll dough into balls (about 1 teaspoon per ball).
- Dip in egg white to coat.
- Roll in nuts.
- Place about 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheet.
- Make thumbprint in each gently.
- Bake at 350u0b0 for 10 to 12 minutes.
- Take out immediately. Place 3 to 4 chocolate chips in thumbprint.
- When melted, spread evenly.
