Grandma'S Tea Cakes

  1. Cream shortening in a large bowl.
  2. Gradually add 1 1/2 cups sugar.
  3. Beating well at medium speed on an electric mixer, add eggs, one at a time.
  4. Beating after each, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
  5. Add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk.
  6. Mix well and stir in extract.
  7. Cover and chill for 1 hour.
  8. Roll dough int 1/4-inch thickness on a floured surface.
  9. Cut with a 2 1/2-inch round cookie cutter.
  10. Place on a greased cookie sheet and bake at 350u0b0 for 15 minutes or until edges begin to brown.
  11. Sprinkle with sugar if desired.
  12. Cool. Yields 4 dozen.
