Onion Blossoms

  1. Peel onion, leaving root intact.
  2. Cut vertically in quarters to within 1/2-inch of root.
  3. Cut each quarter in thirds.
  4. Place onion in boiling water 1 minute, then place in ice water for 5 minutes.
  5. Loosen petals. Drain, cut side down.
  6. Place flour in zip-top bag.
  7. Add onion and shake to coat.
  8. Dip onion in egg. Place cracker crumbs in bag.
  9. Add onion.
  10. Toss to coat.
  11. Chill 1 hour.
  12. Pour oil to depth of 3-inches in electric fryer or saucepan. Heat to 375u0b0.
  13. Fry onion 5 to 7 minutes or until brown. Drain on paper towels.
  14. Sprinkle with salt. Serve with honey mustard or Ranch-style dressing.
  15. Makes 2 appetizer servings.
