Turtle Cake
- 1/3 c. evaporated milk
- 1 German chocolate cake mix
- 14 oz. pkg. vanilla caramels (unwrapped)
- 1 c. chopped nuts
- 1/2 c. margarine or butter, softened
- 2 Tbsp. evaporated milk
- 6 oz. (1 c.) semi-sweet chocolate chips
- Heat oven to 350u0b0.
- In medium saucepan over low heat, combine caramels and 1/3 cup evaporated milk; stir constantly until caramels are melted.
- In a large bowl, combine cake mix, nuts, margarine and 2 tablespoons evaporated milk.
- Mix well.
- Press half of dough into bottom of ungreased 13 x 9-inch pan; reserve remaining dough for topping.
- Bake at 350u0b0 for 8 minutes.
- Sprinkle chips evenly over top of crust.
- Carefully spread caramel mixture over chips.
- Crumble reserved dough over caramel mixture.
- Return to oven and bake for 15 to 18 minutes or until filling is set. Cool completely; cut into squares.
- Makes 36 bars.
