Old Fashioned Chocolate Fudge

  1. Grease a loaf pan. (Use butter or oleo.) Combine sugar, milk, chocolate,torn
  2. syrup and salt in a 2-quart saucepan. Cook
  3. over medium heat, stirring constantly until chocolate is meltedtnd sugar is dissolved.
  4. Cook, stirring occasionally, to 234u0b0 on candy thermometer (or until small amount of mixture dropped
  5. into very cold water forms a soft ball which flattens when removed from water).
  6. Remove from heat; add butter.
  7. Cool mixture

  10. stirring,tbottom
  11. of pan will be lukewarm).
  12. Add vanilla
  13. and beat vigorously and continuously for 5
  14. to
  15. 10 minutes with wooden spoon, until candy is thick and
  16. no longer glossy.
  17. Spread evenly in a buttered pan.
  18. Cool until firm.
  19. Cut into squares.
