Chocolate Surprise Cake
- 10-inch angel food cake
- 32 large marshmallows
- 1/3 c. water
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 6 oz. pkg. semi-sweet chocolate pieces
- 1/4 tsp. vanilla
- whipping cream
- Slice 1-inch off top of cake; set aside.
- Cut down into cake, removing interior, leaving a wall 1-inch thick on all sides. Place cake on plate.
- In medium saucepan, combine marshmallows, water and salt.
- Cook, stirring constantly on low heat until marshmallows melt; add chocolate pieces and vanilla.
- Stir until melted.
- Cool to room temperature.
- Whip 1 cup whipping cream until soft peaks form.
- Fold in chocolate mixture.
- Spoon mixture into hollowed portion of cake.
- Replace top of cake.
- Frost with additional whipped cream or sprinkle with powdered sugar.
