Hershey Bar Cake
- 1 large Hershey bar
- 11 oz. Hershey's chocolate syrup
- 1 c. shortening
- 2 c. sugar
- 4 eggs
- 2 1/2 c. flour
- pinch of salt
- 1 c. buttermilk, with 1/2 tsp. soda dissolved
- 2 tsp. vanilla
- Melt chocolate bar in 6 ounces chocolate syrup over very low heat.
- Add remaining syrup, stirring to be sure all candy is dissolved and smooth.
- Set aside to cool.
- Cream shortening and sugar.
- Add eggs (1 at a time), beating after each.
- Add syrup mixture (it should be cool).
- Add flour and buttermilk (with soda dissolved in it) alternately.
- Add vanilla last.
- Bake at 325u0b0 (tube cake pan) one hour depending upon oven; some may take longer.
- Just insert toothpick to be sure of doneness.
- No icing necessary.
- This cake freezes very well.
