Yeast Dumplings
- 1/2 lb. flour
- 1 1/2 pkg. dry yeast
- 3 Tbsp. sugar
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- 1 tsp. salt
- 4 Tbsp. melted, lukewarm butter or margarine
- 1 egg
- 1/2 c. lukewarm milk (whole milk)
- Thoroughly mix the flour and the yeast in a bowl.
- Put in all other ingredients.
- Knead everything together until you have a dough.
- Let dough rise on warm place until it doubles the size. Knead again.
- Form into a roll and cut into 8 pieces.
- Flour your hands and form dumplings.
- Put them on a floured cookie sheet.
- Let them rise until they are doubled.
- Put a dish towel over a wide pot with boiling water and fasten to pot handles.
- Sprinkle with flour. Put dumplings on top and cover with a bowl.
- Cook approximately 15 to 20 minutes.
- Test with a toothpick.
- Serve with melted butter, sugar and cinnamon.
