Tiny Apple Turnovers
- 4 small green apples, peeled and thinly sliced
- 3/4 c. sugar
- 2 c. plus 2 Tbsp. all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. milk
- 1/2 c. salad oil
- hot salad oil
- Cook apples in a saucepan over low heat about 20 minutes or until tender.
- Combine sugar, 2 tablespoons flour, cinnamon and nutmeg; stir into apples and cook over low heat until thickened, stirring often.
- Set aside.
- Combine 2 cups flour, salt, milk and 1/2 cup oil in a mixing bowl; stir with a fork until mixture forms a ball.
- Divide mixture in half.
- Roll each ball out on a lightly floured board to 1/8 inch thickness; cut with a 2 1/2 inch biscuit cutter.
- Spoon about 3/4 teaspoon apple mixture on half of each pastry circle.
- Moisten edges with water.
- Fold in half and press with a fork to seal.
- Fry turnovers in 1 inch of hot oil until lightly browned, turning once.
- Drain on paper towels.
- Yield: about 3 dozen turnovers.
