Tiny Apple Turnovers

  1. Cook apples in a saucepan over low heat about 20 minutes or until tender.
  2. Combine sugar, 2 tablespoons flour, cinnamon and nutmeg; stir into apples and cook over low heat until thickened, stirring often.
  3. Set aside.
  4. Combine 2 cups flour, salt, milk and 1/2 cup oil in a mixing bowl; stir with a fork until mixture forms a ball.
  5. Divide mixture in half.
  6. Roll each ball out on a lightly floured board to 1/8 inch thickness; cut with a 2 1/2 inch biscuit cutter.
  7. Spoon about 3/4 teaspoon apple mixture on half of each pastry circle.
  8. Moisten edges with water.
  9. Fold in half and press with a fork to seal.
  10. Fry turnovers in 1 inch of hot oil until lightly browned, turning once.
  11. Drain on paper towels.
  12. Yield: about 3 dozen turnovers.
