Applesauce Brownies
- 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup butter or 1/2 cup margarine, softened
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup applesauce
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts
- powdered sugar
- unsweetened cocoa
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Grease 9-inch pan.
- In large bowl, combine brown sugar, margarine and eggs; mix well.
- Stir in applesauce and vanilla; blend thoroughly.
- Stir in flour, 1/4 cup cocoa, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, baking powder, baking soda and salt; mix well.
- Stir in nuts.
- Bake 25 to 35 minutes or until wooden toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
- Cool in pan on wire rack.
- Just before serving, use foil strips to make striped design with powdered sugar, cocoa and 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon.
- Cut into bars.
