Chewy Chocolate Cookies

  1. Core the apples and peel them if you like.
  2. (We prefer the added texture of the peels, but peeled apples look more sophisticated.)
  3. Cut the apples crosswise into 1/4-inch thick slices.
  4. Melt about 2 tablespoons of the butter in a skillet and add a single layer of apple slices.
  5. Raise the heat and saute the slices, turning occasionally, until browned, about 5 minutes. With a slotted spoon, transfer apples to a bowl.
  6. Repeat with more butter and another batch of apples until all have been cooked.
