Sweet And Sour Sauerkraut
- 1/4 c. butter
- 1 large onion
- 2 sour apples, peeled and cut in 1/2-inch dice
- 1 (32 oz.) bag sauerkraut, rinsed and drained
- 1 (28 oz.) can crushed tomatoes (undrained)
- 3/4 c. brown sugar
- 1/2 c. dry white wine (optional)
- 1 Tbsp. caraway seed
- ground pepper to taste
- Preheat oven to 325u0b0.
- Melt butter in large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add onion and apples; saute until softened, 3 to 8 minutes.
- Combine onion and apples with sauerkraut in large mixing bowl.
- Stir in tomatoes, brown sugar and wine.
- Season with caraway seed and black pepper.
- Transfer mixture to a 13 x 9-inch baking dish.
- Cover tightly with foil.
- Bake 1 hour.
- Uncover and bake another 1/2 hour.
- Serve as a side dish.
