Pear Chutney with Raisins

  1. Heat oil in heavy medium saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Add chopped onions and saute until tender, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add remaining ingredients and bring to boil.
  4. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer until pears are tender and mixture thickens slightly, about 30 minutes.
  5. Discard cloves.
  6. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
  7. Cool.
  8. (Can be prepared 1 day ahead.
  9. Cover and refrigerate.)
  10. Serve cold or at room temperature.
