Deep Dish Cherry Pie Recipe
- 6 c. tart cherries (pitted)
- 3/4 c. brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon almond extract
- Few drops red food coloring
- 3/4 c. sugar
- 3 tbsp. cornstarch
- Dash salt
- 3-4 tbsp. butter
- In large bowl combine cherries, sugars, cornstarch, extract, food coloring and salt.
- Place in a greased 2 qt (13x9 inch) casserole.
- Dot with butter.
- Set aside.
- For crust, combine flour, sugar, salt and nutmeg.
- Cut in shortening.
- Add in water, a little at a time, till a dough forms.
- Don't over mix.
- Roll out on a floured surface to fit top of casserole.
- Place on top of cherry mix, pressing against sides of dish.
- Cut 3 X's in top crust.
- Brush with lowfat milk and sprinkle with sugar.
- Bake 350 degrees 1 hour or possibly till crust is brown.
- Cold 15 min.
- Serves 8 to 10.
