Deep Dish Cherry Pie Recipe

  1. In large bowl combine cherries, sugars, cornstarch, extract, food coloring and salt.
  2. Place in a greased 2 qt (13x9 inch) casserole.
  3. Dot with butter.
  4. Set aside.
  5. For crust, combine flour, sugar, salt and nutmeg.
  6. Cut in shortening.
  7. Add in water, a little at a time, till a dough forms.
  8. Don't over mix.
  9. Roll out on a floured surface to fit top of casserole.
  10. Place on top of cherry mix, pressing against sides of dish.
  11. Cut 3 X's in top crust.
  12. Brush with lowfat milk and sprinkle with sugar.
  13. Bake 350 degrees 1 hour or possibly till crust is brown.
  14. Cold 15 min.
  15. Serves 8 to 10.
