A White Christmas Tree Made of Bread
- 1 described in the hints section Bread wreath dough
- 1 described in the hints section Cut-out cookie dough
- 1 Icing
- 1 Silver dragees
- 1 Gold colored cake decorating powder
- 1 Ribbon
- For the bread dough, kneaded for 20 minutes, let it rest for 20 minutes, divide into 6 potions and rest for 15 minutes.
- Roll out each piece of dough about 65 cm long (If the dough is dry and hard to work, moisten your hands with a wet towel...)
- Make the base: Make a 22 cm high, 15 cm diameter cone shape using thick paper and a stapler, and wrap with foil.
- (It will be baked standing up, so measure the inside height of your oven first to decide on the height of the cone.)
- Spray the cone with oil, and wrap the dough around from the top, leaving small gaps in between each coil.
- If you can wrap it so that there's a small bit left at the end the finish will be neat.
- Adhere the ends with a beaten egg and secure well.
- Brush with beaten egg, and bake in a preheated 340F/170C oven for 10 minutes.
- Take it out and brush with egg again and bake for another 10 minutes at 340F/170C, then lower the heat to 300F/150C and bake for another 30 minutes.
- (Check the doneness of the bread, and leave to dry further if needed at 210F/100C for a few minutes.)
- Remove the mold and dry out the bread.
- Make the icing: Use 50 g powdered sugar and 1/3 of an egg white, and adjust the consistency so that it's easy to work with.
- Using an icing bag, draw the outline on the cookies before filling in for a nice finish.
- Combine the tree with a glass goblet, add ribbon, stick on the cookies, and it's done.
- I tried using both a glue gun and thick icing to stick the cookies on the tree.
- Which is better?
- I'll see how it goes and maybe report back...
- This is the first bread wreath I tried making, using 15 strands.
- I hung it in our living room.
- The big wreath is 18 cm in diameter, and the small one is 12 cm.
- I made mini-wreaths (12-13 cm diameter) braided with 5 dough strands.
- I wanted to gift them to many friends, but I ran out of time!
- Next year....
- Stollen!
- I made 7 as gifts this year.
- Since I made so many, I know all the tricks now!
- I made cocoa biscotti, granola biscotti, kinako flavored granola caramels, and "Kanayan's" improved wreath shaped cookies, plus melon cookies.
- I packed 5 kinds of sweets into a Christmas-patterned cute heart shaped box.
- The boot-shaped white sticker is so cute, too!
- I used clear bags and ribbon to show the contents of the gift!
- I made 4 for my daughter's friends plus 3 more for other friends.
