Red Cabbage With Apples

  1. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
  2. Add onion and cook, stirring until softened, but not browned.
  3. Stir in cabbage and season to taste with salt and pepper.
  4. Stir in vinegar.
  5. Reduce heat to low, cover and cook until cabbage is soft, about 45 minutes.
  6. Add water if mixture gets too dry.
  7. Meanwhile peel apples and cut into 1/2 inch pieces.
  8. Stir apples and brown sugar into cabbage mixture.
  9. Cover and cook until apples are tender, 15-20 minutes.
