Poha
- 1- 1/2 cup Dried Thick Poha Or Flattened Rice (See Note Below)
- 3 Tablespoons Oil
- 4 Tablespoons Raw Peanuts
- 1 teaspoon Mustard Seeds (optional)
- 1/2 Tablespoons Cumin Seeds
- 2 whole Green Chilies, Chopped
- 1 whole Yellow Onion, Chopped
- 1/4 cups Green Peas (thaw If Using Frozen)
- 1 teaspoon Turmeric
- 1/2 Tablespoons Salt
- 1/4 cups Fresh Coriander Or Cilantro, Chopped
- 1 whole Lemon, Juiced
- Soak the poha in water for a couple of minutes and then drain it in a colander.
- While draining the poha, heat the oil.
- Add peanuts and fry over medium heat for a minute.
- Add the mustard seeds, cumin seeds and green chilies.
- Fry until the mustard seeds start spluttering.
- Then add the onion and fry until they start turning golden brown.
- Add the green peas and fry for a couple of minutes.
- Add turmeric, mix well and then add the drained poha.
- Mix everything and fry for 4-5 minutes longer.
- Add a few tablespoons water if poha looks too dry.
- Add the salt, coriander and lemon juice, mix everything and cook for a couple of minutes longer.
- Remove from heat and serve hot.
- Note: Poha is sold in all Indian groceries and most ethnic grocers carry it.
- You can also find brown rice poha in some health food stores.
- It is called flattened rice.
- Use the thick variety for this dish.
