Shepherds Pie in a Jar
- 1 pound Lean Ground Beef
- Salt And Pepper, to taste
- 1 Tablespoon Ketchup, You Can Adjust Up To 2 If You Like
- 1 Tablespoon Bisto, You Can Adjust Up To 2 If You Like (this Is Basically A Powdered Gravy Thickener Thingy, Not Sure If Everyone Uses It)
- 1 cup Liquid Beef Stock
- 4 cups Prepared Mashed Potatoes, I Used Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes
- 2 cans Niblet Corn (14.5 Oz Size)
- 2 Tablespoons Butter, Melted For Drizzling Over The Top
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.
- Brown you ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add your salt and pepper once the beef is cooked.
- If using lean ground beef there is no need to drain grease, if using regular it would be a good idea to drain it.
- Now add the ketchup and cook over medium heat for about 5-ish minutes.
- Now add the bisto and the beef stock and cook until it absorbs and thickens.
- Its always best to start with less bisto and add more if desired otherwise itll be a big goopy mess.
- If you dont have leftover mashed potatoes you need to whip those up.
- I used roasted garlic mashed potatoes in mine as I had leftovers.
- Now you are ready to assemble.
- Add a layer of meat on the bottom of the jar.
- Now add a layer of corn to the jar.
- Now add your mashed potato layer.
- Drizzle some melted butter over top.
- Place jars in your preheated 350 degree F oven (I found it helped to place the jars in a cake pan so they were easier to maneuver in and out of the oven and not tip over) and cook for about 20-ish minutes.
- They are done when they go golden brown on the top.
- Yield is tough on this one.
- I made 4 x 250 ml jars plus a casserole dish.
- So just guessing this recipe would make 10 to 12 jars.
- But that is a guesstimate!
