Spicy Tomato Soup (Tomato Rasam)

  1. Heat oil in a pan.
  2. Crush shallots, ginger & garlic.
  3. Add it to the oil.
  4. Saute.
  5. Add pepper powder, chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder & cumin powder.
  6. Mix well.
  7. Chop the tomatoes into small pieces (you can also grind it).
  8. Add it to the pan.
  9. Close the lid & cook the tomatoes.
  10. Add some salt & hot water.
  11. Taste the mix.
  12. If it's not sour enough, crush the tamarind in little water, filter & add it to the mixture.
  13. Else skip this step.
  14. Add asafoetida powder.
  15. Mix & boil.
  16. Add the chopped coriander leaves into it.
  17. Stir & boil for two minutes.
  18. Turn off the stove.
