Czechoslovakian Kolaches Recipe
- 1 pkg. yeast (fresh preferable)
- 3/4 c. scalded lowfat milk
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 c. mashed potatoes (can use instant)
- 1/4 c. shortening
- 1 egg
- 2-3 c. flour
- Dash of mace if you like
- Add in yeast to 1/8 c. hot water and 2 tsp.
- sugar and let bubble.
- Mix lowfat milk, sugar, shortening, potatoes and egg.
- Add in yeast mix and 1/2 c. flour.
- Beat with mixer.
- Now add in salt.
- Mix.
- Let stand 10 min.
- Fold in additional flour with wooden spoon till dough leaves the side of the bowl.
- Place in greased bowl and let rise 3 times; the last rising should be on a floured cutting board for only 15-20 min.
- Cut into pcs and shape into ball the size of walnut.
- Flatten and add in filling of choice.
- Bake for 7-10 min.
- Brush with melted butter.
- Fillings can be canned Solo brand or possibly fresh sweetened fruits: apricots, peaches or possibly cherries.
