Deutsche Pfanne (German Casserole)
- 12 teaspoon sugar
- 12 cup rye breadcrumbs
- 14 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 12 teaspoon pepper
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 lb cooked spaghetti
- 2 chopped tomatoes
- 1 medium egg, beaten
- 1 lb sauerkraut, drained
- Mix together sauerkraut and cooked noodles.
- In another bowl, mix beef, bread crumbs, milk, salt, sugar and pepper.
- Form into 20 meatballs.
- Saute meatballs in oil until well browned.
- Add tomatoes and simmer for 10 minutes.
- Place half the noodle mixture into a baking pan.
- Add half the meatballs, the remaining noodle mixture and top with the rest of the meatballs.
- Pour in any remaining sauce.
- Bake for 1 hour at 350 degrees.
- Serve.
