Grandmas Macaroni and Cheese
- 2 cups Uncooked Macaroni Noodles
- 1/4 cups Butter
- 1/4 cups Flour
- 2 cups Skim Milk
- 1/2 teaspoons Salt
- 18 teaspoons Black Pepper
- 2 cups Shredded Sharp Cheddar Cheese, Divided
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
- Add in the macaroni noodles and cook until al dente.
- Drain the noodles in a colander.
- Using the same pot, add in the butter and melt over medium high heat.
- Add in the flour and stir until all of the flour is absorbed, approximately 2 minutes.
- Slowly pour in the milk, stirring constantly as you do.
- Add in the salt and pepper.
- Continue to stir the sauce until it has thickened and there are no lumps.
- Once the sauce has thickened, add in 1 3/4 cups of the shredded cheddar cheese.
- Stir the sauce until all of the cheese has melted.
- Pour the pasta back into the pot and fold in with the sauce.
- Pour the macaroni and cheese into a grease baking dish and top with the remaining 1/4 cup of cheese.
- Bake at 375 degrees F for 15 minutes or until bubbly and browned.
- To get an extra crisp top on the macaroni and cheese, broil for the last few minutes.
