Old-Fashioned Apple Butter(Crock-Pot Recipe)

  1. Wash, core, peel and quarter apples.
  2. Place apples and apple juice in a lightly oiled crock-pot.
  3. Cover and cook on low setting for 10 to 18 hours (on high setting the last 2 to 4 hours).
  4. Fruit should cook until almost an applesauce capacity.
  5. You can use a potato masher to get rid of lumps.
  6. For each pint of cooked fruit, add sugar, cinnamon, allspice and cloves.
  7. Stir well.
  8. Cover and cook on high setting for 6 to 8 hours, stirring about every 2 hours.
  9. Remove cover after 3 hours to allow fruit and juice to cook down.
  10. Spoon into hot jars and process in boiling water bath. Makes about 5 (1/2 pint) jars.
