Easy Oni-Manjuu (Ogre Dumplings) Using a Silicone Steamer
- 1 Sweet potato
- 100 to 150 grams Plain flour
- 100 to 130 ml Water
- 1 tsp (1) Salt
- 1/2 tsp (2) Salt
- 3 to 4 tablespoons Sugar
- Peel the sweet potato, and cut into cubes.
- To remove the bitterness, prepare a bowl of water (not listed), and add the (1) salt.
- Soak the sweet potato in the bowl of water.
- Drain, rinse under running water, and drain again really well.
- Coat the sweet potato with sugar in a bowl.
- If the sugar is really grainy, add a little water.
- Leave the sweet potato for about 5 minutes to let it absorb the sweetness.
- Add the plain flour into the bowl, and mix.
- Add water while adjusting the consistency of the batter.
- Add the (2) salt to enhance the sweetness.
- Adjust the amounts of flour and sugar depending on the size and sweetness of the sweet potato.
- If you like it nice and chewy, it will be the best if you make the batter rather thick like okonomiyaki batter.
- If you like it rich and dense, make the batter firm enough to form peaks.
- Pour the batter into a silicone steamer, microwave for 7 minutes at 600 W. After microwaving, let it steam for 3 minutes and it's done.
- Twist the silicone steamer to remove the cake onto a sheet of aluminum foil.
- Cut into bite-sized pieces, and it's ready to serve.
- If you cut it horizontally, you can hold it in the aluminum foil, and it's easy to eat.
